WarCraft III: Day of the Dragon

WarCraft III: Day of the Dragon is my second custom campaign for the award-winning Real-Time-Strategy game WarCraft III. It features a mix of RTS and RPG elements and a variety of choices the player can make. The story is based on the eponymous WarCraft novel, written by Richard A. Knaak.

Cinematic Prologue - Visions of War

The Kirin Tor, a collection of the most powerful mages of Azeroth, discuss the fate of the world.

Map Specific Features

  • Introduces the setting, the Kirin Tor, and the protagonists Rhonin and Krasus.
  • Set in the magical kingdom of Dalaran. Features a violet color palette and many tall buildings.

Campaign Mission 1 - Road to Hasic

The mage Rhonin meets with Vereesa Windrunner to get to Hasic on the shores of Lordaeron.

Map Specific Features

  • Choose between three distinct classes for the main character.
  • Introduction to the morality system for optional quests: Be 'good' or 'evil'.
  • Detailed exterior environment with wilderness and villages.

Campaign Mission 2 - Torn Apart

When the heroes arrive in the Wetlands, Rhonin gets captured. Vereesa and Falstad help the native dwarves fight their enemies.

  • Varied objectives: Avoid traps, rescue allies, hold positions and more.
  • Detailed swamp setting with plenty of water.

Campaign Mission 3 - Kill Kryll

Vereesa and Falstad meet a shady Goblin named Kryll, who promises to lead them to Rhonin.

  • Detailed swamp setting with a number of humanoid bases.

Cinematic Interlude - The King of Alterac

The mage Krasus spies on the antagonist Lord Prestor.

  • Map that consists of nothing but cutscenes.
  • The player learns more about the antagonist's background.
  • Set in two distinct indoor environments: Krasus' private chambers and King Terenas' council chambers.

Campaign Mission 4 - Goblin Island

Rhonin wakes up on a mysterious island, and needs to solve a series of puzzles before he can continue his quest.

Map Specific Features

  • Features a number of puzzles instead of combat.
  • Extended optional quests where the player can solve the mystery surrounding a murder.
  • Set on a series of islands controlled by goblins.

Campaign Mission 5a - The Great Aspects: Dalaran

Krasus wakes up and seeks the help of his colleagues to reach the Dragon Aspects.

  • Main hub-map that the hero revisits inbetween missions.
  • Features a new hero and some optional quests that involve little combat.
  • A quiet city environment that is mainly used to talk to NPCs.

Campaign Mission 5b - The Great Aspects: Northrend

Krasus teleports to Northrend to seek the help of the Great Aspect Malygos, the Spellweaver.

Map Specific Features

  • The hero may enlist the aid of friendly warriors.
  • First half consists of an ice and snow environment with bestial enemies.
  • Second half consists of a huge indoor area with humanoid enemies.

Campaign Mission 5c - The Great Aspects: The Emerald Dream

Krasus wakes up in the Emerald Dream to seek the help of the Dragon Aspect Ysera.

Map Specific Features

  • Base-building missions with a number of new controllable units and buildings.
  • Features a new hero with new abilities.
  • Set in a surreal spirit world with plenty of nature, but is being invaded by demons.

Campaign Mission 5d - The Great Aspects: Caverns of Time

Krasus enters the Caverns of Time to seek the help of the Great Dragon Nozdormu, the Aspect of Time.

Map Specific Features

  • Features mostly story and simple tasks with little combat.
  • Aid the famous orc Thrall in his escape with the help of his friend Taretha and a dog.
  • Time-travelling mission that revisits a classic map from Lord of the Clans.

Campaign Mission 6 - Behind Enemy Lines

Vereesa and Falstand help the dwarf Rom fight off orcs and gain access to Grim Batol.

Map Specific Features

  • Features a mix of RPG and RTS elements.
  • Introduces a new hero with new abilities.
  • Set in a dark swamp environment and a siege behind enemy lines.

Campaign Mission 7 - The Belly of the Beast

Rhonin gains access to Grim Batol and finds Alexstrasza. Falstad and Vereesa arrive shortly afterwards.

Map Specific Features

  • First half consists of Rhonin exploring the fortress, rescuing allies, and slaying dragons.
  • Second half consists of Vereesa and Falstad reuniting with Rhonin and escaping the fortress.
  • Set inside a fortress ruled by orcs and dragons.

Campaign Mission 8 - The Battle of Grim Batol

Krasus prepares his forces for the final confrontation with the orcs and the Demon Soul.
